WEEKLY UPDATE

Week 8

10/17/2020

This week lots of plants were added to the meadow thanks to the generosity of my mentors from Meadowscaping for Biodiverity and help from two Youth Environmental Entrepreneurship Program (YEEP) volunteers. We were also joined by a community volunteer that saw the meadow in progress and offered to help.

Week 7

10/12/2020

We kicked off this week by installing the information kiosk in the meadow. Thankfully my Eagle Scout Project Coach Mr. Robert Logan is an expert in this kind of work! With his help and guidance we had the kiosk installed in record time and then were able to have a proper socially distanced lunch break. We were all very...

Week 6

10/07/2020

Week six started with lots of help from my Eagle Scout Mentor Mr. Rober Logan who did quite a bit of digging to asses the soil conditions at the site in order to come up with a plan to install the information kiosk. We were once again joined by scouts Rishi Gundapalli and Gabe Manchester who helped dig and...

Week 5

09/30/2020

This week started with the return of Scouts Gabe Manchester and Rishi Gundapalli who helped till and weed the entire second 14'X14' section of the meadow. This portion of the meadow will be home to Common Milkweed, Swamp Milkweed and Butterfly Weed. I would like to take a moment to once again stress that despite the unfortunate name of...

Week 4

09/21/2020

Week four kicks off with more plants being added to the meadow and lots of people stopping by the site to inquire about the project. A popular question is, why there are plants in the meadow that seem wilted? And why are we not deadheading the Bee Balm or Brown-Eyed Susan? The reason for that is because it is...

Week 3

09/15/2020

Week three is off to a great start with lots of plant donations from supporters and my mentors at Meadowscaping for Biodiversity (www.meadowmaking.org).

Week2

09/08/2020

Week two is off to a great start with more volunteers. The arrival of an ingenious water pump I ordered online allows us to easily collect water from the river so plants can be watered every evening. DCR delivered a generous load of rich soil for the plants and fellow Scouts Gabe Manchester, Tyler Mailman and Rishi Gundapalli, helped...

Week 1

09/06/2020

Groundbreaking for the native plant meadow began this week. My expert advisors Barbara Passero and Jean Devine, Co-Founders of Meadowscaping for Biodiversity www.meadowmaking.org helped me chose the perfect starting point. We measured out an initial 14'X14' area that was then subdivided into 2'x2' plots for volunteers to weed, till and plant.
